Deuteronomy. 26:1-11 / Luke. 4:1-13
We return to the combination of a Psalm and a Gospel reading this week. The Psalm is 27, and the Gospel is Luke 13:31-35.
When I was waiting to hear from the MBPPC search committee, whether or not I was their candidate to serve as pastor, I clung to Psalm 27 in my daily reading and prayer. “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:14). Read this Psalm as a source of your own courage in these difficult days.
Luke 13:31-35 presents both a life-threatening challenge for Jesus, and a lament by him. These two things often go hand-in-hand. When we are hard-pressed by adversity we feel keenly the absence of helpers.
What is the threat to Jesus in Luke 13:31-33?
What is his lament about in Luke 13:34-35?
How can your life of discipleship give you courage and clarity in a similar way when you are struggling?
