The Riches of Poverty

James 2:1-17

As we continue to read through the Letter of James during September, we come to a challenging passage about justice, power, wealth, and poverty. The reading is James 2:-1-17.

Consider how James 2:1 is written. There is no wiggle-room here, only a declaration of something for which we are already responsible. How are you influenced to practice or benefit from “acts of favoritism”?

What do you think about James rhetorical question, “Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be heirs of the kingdom he has promised to those who love him?” (James 2:5).

The emphasis, here, is on putting our money where our mouth is (literally and figuratively). As you pray for our ministry at MBPPC, and ponder the distance between our faith and our works, what opportunities do you see for us in our shared life?
