the opportunity to love one’s neighbor
So often the opportunity to love one’s neighbor comes unexpectedly and from an unanticipated direction.
We at MBPPC are being given an opportunity to love neighbor by helping a young Egyptian college student and her mother. The student has just finished her sophomore year at Whitworth College and is in Seattle until June 28th, participating in a skills workshop for blind people (she was born blind). Her mother has traveled here to help her since neither of them have ever spent time in a large US city.
The student has an apartment provided by the program. But the mother can only stay with her between Friday evening and Monday morning. She has found a micro apartment in the Central Area for weekdays. The mother feels very isolated, and does not feel safe around the many unhoused people around the micro apartment.
Lisa and I are driving the mother to her daughter’s apartment on Friday evenings, and back to the micro apartment on Monday mornings. However, I am hopeful that we could find the mother a spare room in someone’s home so that she will not feel so isolated and frightened.
Do you have a spare room to share between now and June 28th?
Mother and daughter will also be flying back to Egypt on June 28th. While they are willing to hire a van (they have four large suitcases), I am hoping someone with a van can volunteer to take them. Can you do this?
If you can help with either of these needs, I would be very grateful. The mother is a psychologist, is well-read, and is a fascinating person to talk with. The daughter is double majoring in computer science and music (she plays classical piano, and is especially fond of Schubert and Mozart).
