A Message from Pastor Andrea Chaumont
I was a sophomore in college and I did not want to stay on campus for my junior year. I needed a semester away and there was a program I wanted to participate in badly, in Egypt. I stayed #2 on the waitlist for the whole summer praying “God, open up a spot for me.” It didn’t happen. I did not know what I was going to do, it was August and the semester was set to start in just a few weeks. Then I got a call from the school off-campus programs director saying there was one spot left in an off campus program in San Francisco.
This was not my plan. My dad was born in San Francisco and S.F. was where we went growing up to visit my grandparents. It wasn’t as exotic as Egypt. However, I didn’t know what was waiting for me when I said yes and moved into a house on the corner of Lyon and Fell. I learned about cities, caught a vision for urban ministry and interned as a chaplain at San Francisco General Hospital. All of this would become foundational for eventually following a call to full time vocational ministry and give me a heart for urban living, first as a young adult in Paris and now in Seattle.
We all have to make decisions all the time. What does it mean to pray along with Jesus, “may your will be done”? How do our wills interact with God’s will and how are our desires formed by this liturgy of the heart, The Lord’s Prayer?
I look forward to worshipping with you again this Sunday and continuing our transitional journey together. Please mark November 16th on your calendar for the Harvest Luncheon after church. A big thank you to Susan and Mary who are heading up this event. We will also continue our self-study process through some guided questions and table discussion as part of our transitional journey together.
With gratitude,
Andrea
