A Message from Pastor Heather James

April 23, 2026

Dear MBPPC,

Thank you for such a warm welcome to the ministry at Mount Baker Park PC. I'm delighted to have these few weeks with you all, and join you in praying for Pastor Andrea as she takes medical leave. I will be at the church on Tuesdays for staff meetings and other responsibilities, and then again on Sunday mornings for worship with the congregation. Please know if you have any questions or pastoral concerns during these two weeks, you can email me or call and leave a message at the church office and I will respond as quickly as I can.  We look forward to welcoming Pastor Andrea back on Monday, May 4.

To introduce myself, I work as a transition pastor in the Presbyteries in the Pacific Northwest. I live in Tacoma with my daughter, a high school freshman, and our 5 year old golden retriever. I was ordained almost 30 years ago in the Seattle Presbytery, and most recently served as a transition pastor at Japanese Presbyterian Church. I am now serving Chapel by the Sea in Pacific Beach, WA. In addition, I work as a Senior Consultant for AE Sloan Leadership, a consulting firm that helps churches and organizations navigate change in our ever-changing world. It is my great joy to be consulting with international organizations such as Wycliffe Bible Translators, and also be assisting churches in different parts of the U.S. with discernment about their future.

The next two Sundays, we will be looking into God's word in Psalm 23 and John 10 as we celebrate God who is our Good Shepherd.  I invite you to read Psalm 23 this week in preparation for worship and spend a few minutes reflecting on where God has led you to green pastures and still waters.  Or maybe to pray about those places where you long to see God still the waters and bring rest to your soul.  We worship a good and gracious God. I hope to meet you this Sunday as we gather to worship and remember God's faithfulness.

With gratitude,

Rev. Heather James
