A Message from Pastor Andrea Chaumont

January 21, 2026

Dear MBPPC,

Our vision is to be a congregation in which we “actively engage in spiritual friendships. We do this by praying for and with each other, studying scripture, and going into the world as disciples of Jesus Christ.” This week we look at Jesus’ call to the first disciples (Matthew 4:12-23 if you want to look ahead). As Jesus is walking by the Sea of Galilee, he sees two brothers fishing and calls to them “follow me.” The text tells us that they immediately left their nets and followed him. The next set of brothers are mending their nets in the boat with their father. Again, the text tells us that they did not hesitate to drop their nets, leave their father and follow Jesus.

Where might God be calling us to follow him in our “everyday, ordinary lives - our sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around lives” (Romans 12:1, The Message)? Sometimes I think I hear God’s call in my kitchen while I am doing dishes or folding the laundry. The “holy” spaces are not just in our beautiful sanctuary but also in our mundane tasks. I love this book by Tish Harrison Warren, Liturgy of the Ordinary.

What does it mean to live as a disciple - as one of many throughout the centuries who have said yes to following Jesus in his way of downward mobility, humble service, and love of God and neighbor?

I praise God for the ways that I see you engaging in spiritual friendships; praying for one another, showing care and concern for each other, and welcoming whoever walks through the door. I give thanks too for the ways you step outside and feed our neighbors, provide coats to the cold, and care for children. God is up to something good in our midst.

Grateful to partner with you in ministry,

Pastor Andrea

P.S.

Pastor Andrea is on study leave this week (Jan. 20 - 23) and will return to preach this Sunday, January 25th.
